Milenko Katic’ (b. Serbia 1944) is a mixed media painter and sculptor living in Afton, Virginia since leaving Croatia in 1989. Working from memory and dreams, Katic’s paintings often merge childhood naivety with a matured perspective.
His process begins with representational pencil drawings, progressing to crayon and then broader more abstract brush strokes of paint to create a base for each multi-layered painting. He often works in a rhythmic cycle until the layers have come together to convey his intended vision.
Katic’ has exhibited throughout the Eastern United States and Yugoslavia. His work has appeared in Richmond Style Weekly, Rockbridge Weekly and Alleghany Journal among other publications.
Katic’ studied medicine at the University of Belgrade before turning full time to painting and sculpture by 1970. Katic’ was mentored in drawing and painting by local artists in Belgrade until joining the Painting School of Machva in 1979.
