About the Artist

Tamiko KawataTamiko Kawata

Tamiko creates her works through experimenting with materials that reflect her life and my thoughts. Small, unpretentious, valueless things and waste material from our daily life often become her primary medium and a theme. She is fascinated to discover another vision, language and energy within quiet stillness.

Tamiko Kawata came from Japan in her young adult life, and feels her works are often intuitive reactions to the American life that she has happily adopted - her art making is a visual journey of her life. Observing our environment is an exciting daily practice - the accumulations of our daily life, people’s lifestyle, how they react to occurrences and nature’s phenomena such as water, mist, shadows, and wind. These are all strong inspirations to form her works.
