CONNEXIONS: NEW WORK
JUNE 5-16, 2015
RECEPTION JUNE 5, 7-9pm
“Connexions” is a reflective body of work that speaks to the artist’s passion for her environs and the magical, material, and often mystical elements that come together within her purview – the world outside her window where sea, sky, sand, structure and life’s memories convene. The familiar soft grays, blues and greens of Mittenthal’s palette are inscribed with varied lines – some random, others defining, all interconnected either physically or as an emotional thread to lead us through each panel’s story.
Over the last ten years, Mittenthal has worked predominately in wax or encaustic paint while integrating tar, marble dust, pigment sticks, dry materials, graphite and miscellaneous mediums. Her process explores the ritual of layering, the unexpected scents and anticipation of moving and carving through wax.
