Raised on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, painter Jessica Pisano continues to draw her inspiration from the natural landscape and ever-changing skies that surround her.  In her solo feature “Earth + Sky”, Pisano’s canvases capture an instant frozen in time, whether illustrating the synchronicity of birds in flight or a rush of wind across the boughs of a limber tree.  Using the techniques of the Old Masters, Pisano’s subjects are rendered with extraordinary detail by applying many translucent layers, each brushstroke as essential as the next in defining the moment.  In contrast, her use of contemporary techniques in which paint is loosely applied in an intuitive manner to create the background, results in a unique juxtaposition of styles between subject and background; past and present.

Jessica Pisano pursued her passion for the arts at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, graduating in 1999 with a BFA in painting and photography.  She participated in a year abroad program to study fine art at the Lorenzo de Medici School in Florence, Italy.  In 2002, she earned an MA in Arts Administration from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.  Pisano is an award-winning artist whose work is widely collected in both private and public collections all over the world.  Meet the artist Friday June 29th from 7-9pm.
